Know How to Kill Fleas
Flea bites not
only infect dogs, cats, humans and other animals,
they can create nuisance in your house as
well. Fleas can invade carpets, rugs, beddings,
lawn, garden, sofa or any thing they come
in contact with. Flea bites can be seen on
your pets or on your skin as little red spots
usually without swelling, and may also cause
irritation, itching, rashes and pain in those
who are allergic to flea bites. Therefore,
it becomes very important to know how to kill
fleas on your pets, your house or your surroundings.
Killing fleas is an important factor for both
you and your pet’s health. These small
pesky creatures can lead to severe problems
and some times may prove fatal, as fleas feed
on blood of their host and prolonged exposure
to them may lead to excessive blood loss and
anaemia. It is not an easy task to get rid
of fleas because a female flea can produce
up to five hundred eggs at a time and the
larvae can continue to exist for more than
8 months, and some times even a year.
Some of the home remedies for fleas are to
use a flea comb, to regularly vacuum and clean
the entire house, wash all the fabrics in
your home including rugs, carpets, beddings,
curtains and anything that comes frequently
in contact with the infested pet. But it has
to be remembered that after vacuuming the
home, you should not leave the vacuum bag
inside your house, otherwise it can lead to
fleas attack again. You can also use insecticides
or infra red treatment of the house carried
out with caution.
There is a wide range of shampoos, sprays,
solutions, pills, chemicals, oils and collars
available in the market that you can use to
get rid of fleas. Products like Advantage
flea control, Frontline flea control and Proban
pills are very effective in killing fleas
but of course, surplus of anything is bad.
An excessive use of these agents used to kill
fleas can also prove hazardous for the pets
and for us also. Over use of flea repellents
can also cause vomiting and neurological problems
in your pets.
Flea collars are also available that emit
vapours that are highly poisonous for fleas
but you must check the pet’s skin from
time to time beneath the collar to make sure
that the collar is not causing any type of
irritation or infection on the pet’s
neck. Citrus peel extracts, rubbing alcohol
on the pet’s skin and sorptive dusts
are very effective method of killing fleas
too.
